A4TE is committed to maintaining the security of our visitors and the privacy and personal information gathered from our members and those who visit our websites. As the protection of your privacy is important to us, we provide this notice explaining our online information practices and the choices you can make about what information you give us and the way that information is used.
You do not have to share any personal information to use the A4TE website, and we do not collect personally identifiable information through our websites or email without your permission. We do at times link to other websites, and A4TE cannot control and is not responsible for the content or the privacy policies of those sites.
A4TE expects it may need to revise its privacy policy as it develops the features of its sites. A4TE will make reasonable efforts to inform users of any changes, but the spirit of this policy will be maintained, and our policy to never sell, exchange, rent, trade, or give email lists to unaffiliated third parties will never be altered.
This privacy policy sets forth A4TE’s information practices regarding:
- the information we collect;
- how we use the information;
- how you receive emails and newsletters from A4TE;
- how you can access and correct your personal information;
- how we protect your personal and financial information; and
- how to contact us about privacy issues.
The kind of personally identifiable information we collect
A4TE collects the following types of personal information at our website or through the website of our donation processing partner:
- Name
- Address
- Email Address
- Phone number
- Pronouns
- Credit/debit card information
How we use the information you provide when you become a member of A4TE or sign up for one of our public education campaigns
By consenting to receive emails, you will receive newsletters, updates on our legal work, and invitations to our events. By providing your address, you agree to have your address listed in a tax acknowledgement letter sent to you if you donate. By providing your phone number, you agree to receive phone calls from A4TE staff. We collect your pronouns in order to understand how best to refer to you. We securely keep card information on file to process payments - no staff members can see any card numbers saved. You can withdraw your consent to any of these forms of communication at any time.
A4TE will never share or sell the personal information you provide or we collect through our website to any unaffiliated organization without your permission, with the following exceptions. We may share personal information with third parties who provide services, such as website hosting or other services of an administrative or technical nature, solely for the purpose of providing such services and subject to confidentiality obligations. In addition, we reserve the right to disclose personal information about visitors: if we believe in good faith that the law permits it; to protect the rights, property, safety or security of A4TE, our visitors, our registered users or the public; to respond to an emergency; or to enforce any terms of use agreement governing use of a website controlled or operated by us. From time to time, we may send you information from other like-minded organizations whose products or services we think subscribers might find interesting, but we do not exchange, trade, rent, or give email lists to unaffiliated third parties.
A4TE also uses information gathered via the A4TE website to improve our web-based services. A4TE periodically performs statistical analyses of aggregate user behavior and characteristics in order to measure interest in and use of various areas on our website and uses such information to improve our website's ability to serve you.
Cookies: A4TE uses "cookies" on some web pages. A cookie is a small piece of data stored on an End User's hard drive but does not itself contain any personal information. Cookies enhance an End User's experience by saving the End User from having to log in or provide information to a A4TE web page and by customizing content based on an End User's interests. An End User can choose whether or not to use the cookie.
How you receive emails from A4TE
A4TE is committed to providing timely updates to our users by email. We may request information from you to enhance our ability to customize our communications with you so you get the information you want. You will be able to unsubscribe from communications you receive from us at any time by following the directions included in each such communication.
You will only receive emails from us if you have (a) provided your email address when making a donation or (b) signed up to receive A4TE's emails online, through a mailing or brochure, at an event or through some other venue.
Other than your name and postal mailing address, your email address is not shared with other organizations or parties.
In order to provide you with better and more relevant information, we compile information about email response and website usage. This information helps us to better understand our members’ site usage patterns and also what types of content and information may help improve your user experience on the A4TE website.
All emails sent contain a link to unsubscribe.
How you can access or correct your information
You can access and correct all your personally identifiable information that we collect online. To protect your privacy and security, we will also take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access or making corrections. You can also correct and/or change any personal information on record by contacting A4TE’s development department at development@transequality.org.
How we protect your personal and financial information
A4TE is extremely protective of the information gathered through its donation forms and website. Our website has security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of the information under our control. Our web server is located in a locked, secure environment.
Please be aware that if you decide to disclose personally identifiable information on a publicly-accessible area of an A4TE site (such as in the comment section of blog posts), this information may become public. A4TE does not control the acts of other visitors to its sites, so please be cautious when deciding to reveal personal information in a public area of any site. Please contact us if you believe a visitor to an A4TE site is improperly collecting or using information about you or other users.
A4TE appreciates and will accept online contributions. Users will be asked to submit contact information for verification purposes. Contact information will be stored in a secure location, and financial information will not be stored except when it is needed for record-keeping purposes. When you contribute to A4TE online via donation, the donation site uses a secure server and encryption to protect your financial and other personal information during transmission.
A4TE has measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of visitor personally identifiable information that is under our control. For example, only select A4TE staff and contracted individuals have access to personally identifiable information provided by visitors to non-public areas of our sites, and are bound by a confidentiality policy when accessing such information. We use industry-standard encryption technologies when transferring and receiving sensitive personal and financial data from our site. Please note, however, that security breaches can occur even if reasonable steps are taken to prevent such breaches; for example, we cannot guarantee that information provided through our sites will not be illegally accessed on our servers or intercepted while being transmitted to us over the Internet. Please contact us if you believe there has been any breach of the security of our sites.
How we protect children’s privacy
A4TE is concerned about the safety and privacy of children online. Because of this, we will make all efforts to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA). COPPA and its accompanying FTC regulations establish United States federal law that protects the privacy of children using the Internet. A4TE does not specifically ask children under 13 for any information, and we do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information about them. Our site is not intended to solicit information of any kind from children under 13, and we will develop our site with the capacity to block acceptance of information from children under 13 whenever age-related information is requested.
It is possible that by fraud or deception by others we may receive information given to us or pertaining to children under 13. If we are notified of this, as soon as we verify the information, we will immediately obtain parental consent or else delete the information from our servers. If you want to notify us of our receipt of information by children under 13, please do so by e-mailing us at a4te@transequality.org.
Please note
A4TE plans to regularly update and add new features to our websites. Because of this, A4TE expects to revise its privacy policy as its site develops. Such amendments will be posted in the privacy policy section of the site. You can determine whether the privacy policy has been modified since your last visit by checking the “Last updated” legend at the top of the policy. As stated above, the spirit of this policy will be maintained, and our policy to never sell, exchange, rent, trade, or give email lists to unaffiliated third parties will never be altered. A4TE links to other like-minded websites, but is not responsible for the content or the privacy policies of those websites.
